4. Responsibility to World

Subcategory Description
a. Nature and Man’s Relationship to Natural World
  1. Nature is the whole of the physical world and what exists outside of any human action. Man is in nature and should interact with nature in a harmonious way.  Man should respect nature and can utilize it but not “defeat” or "conquer” it.   In addition man has a responsibility to protect and safeguard nature.
Islam teaches that humans are stewards (khalifah) of the Earth, responsible for protecting and preserving the natural world.
  2. The Quran emphasizes the signs of Allah in nature and encourages reflection on the environment as a means of understanding His greatness. Sustainable practices, conservation, and respect for all living creatures are integral to this stewardship. By fostering a harmonious relationship with the natural world, Muslims fulfill their duty to Allah, ensuring the well-being of the environment for future generations and demonstrating gratitude for the blessings of creation.
